Black Light What Now?

Since forming in 2011 “Blacklight Panda” have been taking the music industry  by storm. With a fresh fusion of Alternative Rock, Indie-Electro and Soul, they have managed to win Battle of the Bands 2012, and have gotten their first recorded track 'Running'  played on  91.9 Rock FM.

Fronting the cover of the November issue of local E-Zine Riff Magazine and having performed in almost all the local music venues alongside top South African bands such as Graeme Watkins Project, Lonehill Estate, and Wake to Wonder, they are now aiming to tour the rest of South Africa.

Currently working with renowned producer David Grevler  at  Anti-motion Studios  Blacklight  Panda plan to have their debut album released by the end of 2012. The album promises to be extremely upbeat with soulful melodies, energetic guitar riffs and groovy drum beats that guarantee to get people moving.

With a very broad cultural back round of 5 nationalities the band can't help but express their diversity through their music. Young, full of charisma and with a slight disregard for the rules, this band appeals to the youth demographic of South Africa, this coupled with an aggressive marketing strategy that approaches the industry from all angles has developed a loyal following of committed fans in Johannesburg.

Although the band are based in Johannesburg Bunny (lead vocals) is the only band member that is fully South African, growing up in Port Elizabeth and moving to Johannesburg in her early teens. The rest of the band are European.

“We all grew up in different places a huge distance apart, but when we met it was like we shared a culture, maybe it’s the music”.

The four boys through there teens always had a love for rock music especially that of the 80's and 90's listening to bands like Queen,  AC/DC, and the Red Hots.

“We all like the Chili’s but Tony seems to have some sort obsession, it contributes to bass style which is great”

The band will always have Rock roots but Indie music changed a lot for them.

“Bands like the Killers, Kings of Leon, and Florence and the machine, are bringing something new and we love it”.

Francesco (lead guitar) has for the most part moved on from heavy distortion and overdrive to more modern and electronic sounds which gives the whole band a more exotic feel.

"In our day and age you have to make music that people can dance to and that’s the case with most of our songs, its how we write them”.

Bunny is a soul singer, with a lot of RnB and Hip Hop influences.
The melodies she writes and her style of singing changes the dynamic of the band in such a way that it sets us apart from other bands in our genre.

Even though the band doesn’t boast university degrees or many years of musical studies their ability to learn and evolve according to global trends has become their biggest asset.

“Living together has not only enable us to practice daily for numerous hours, but has brought us closer on a creative level”.
